What are Pagan Pantheons and how do you choose one?

We should probably start by talking about what a pantheon is… The literal definition of a pantheon is: all the gods of a religion collectively.

The word ‘pantheon’ comes from Greek and in the times of Ancient Greece, a pantheon referred to a temple dedicated to the Greek Gods.

Nowadays, we don’t build luscious temples to our Pagan Gods, but we refer to specific groups of Pagan Gods by the term ‘pantheon’.

Some of the most popular pantheons to worship are:

• The Norse / Germanic Pantheon (The worship of Norse and Germanic Gods such as Odin, Freyja, and Thor)
• The Celtic Pantheon (The worship of Celtic Gods such as Lugh, Brigid and the Mórrígan)
• The Roman Pantheon (The worship of Roman Gods such as Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva)
• The Greek Pantheon (The worship of Greek Gods such Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades)
• The Egyptian Pantheon (The worship of Egyptian Gods such a Ra, Isis, and Nephthys)

How do you choose one?

I love that we live in a world… where we don’t have to choose!

When you’re just starting out in your practice, this concept can be confusing – especially if you’ve come from an organised religion such as Christianity.

So let me be the first to say…

You don’t have to choose just one pantheon.

If want to work with both Celtic and Norse deities (I sometimes do!) – THEN DO IT!

If you want to work with Egyptian and Roman Gods – who says you can’t?

If anyone questions your decision to work with Gods across multiples pantheons, ask to see the rule book (because there isn’t one 😜)

While you’re deciding which path or paths are right for you, trust your intuition.

Intuition is one of the most powerful tools we have been gifted with and a pantheon will call to you in its own way.

It’s likely that one or two of these pantheons already stand out to you and that’s probably a sign that one of the Gods in that pantheon may be of interest.

Reach out to them! Leave an offering and see if you can feel their presence in the coming days / weeks / months.

For me, it took me years to understand the signs that had been there all along.

I was walking the eclectic path with my runes – but when I look back, the signs from Norse Gods had always been there, calling to me.

At the time, I wasn’t ready to listen – but when I did – the whole world opened up.

Trust your intuition and you can never go wrong.
