This bindrune has been one of my favourites for years. I’ve always been sensitive to spirits and as this time of year comes around and the veil thins – it’s a must have for ALL sensitive folks. Let’s learn how to use it…

How we use this bindrune depends on what you want to protect.
If you want to protect yourself…
- Carve this bindrune onto a personal totem such as a necklace or something you carry with you daily. (You can even write it onto a piece of paper and place it in your wallet in an emergency. I don’t recommend doing this for longer than a day because coins and money tends to gather lots of energy. This energy can cling to your bindrune(s) and stop them from accomplishing their desired task.) I recommend using something like rowan as a carving surface as the energy in rowan branches are perfect for protection.
- Anoint the bindrune with burning mugwort (or your choice of a protection herb/oils). I like to make some mugwort and lavender incense bindrunes for this time of year. I burn them when reciting my own version of galdr (magic chants that are generally sung or spoken aloud). I find this works wonders – sometimes it’s great just to state your intentions aloud to let any spirits or energies around you know that you’ll take none of their sh*t.
- Once your ritual is complete, you can wear your bindrune. I find that this bindrune needs cleansed and charged on a pretty frequent basis, especially at this time of year.
If you want to protect your home…
- Write or carve this bindrune onto four pieces of rowan bark
- You can choose to perform the same ritual as above, speaking galdr while moving the pieces of carved wood through the smoke.
- I recommend cleansing your home before taking the next step – otherwise any spirits or entities in your home will be unable to leave the boundary. Essentially you would be trapping them on your land.
- Bury each bindrune in all four corners of the home. There is no need to charge this bindrune as it obtains it’s energy from the land. You can recite galdr with your intentions as you bury the pieces of wood. For example, you can say something along the lines of…
“No malevolent spirit shall cross this boundary. No spirit that wishes to cause this land harm will cross the boundary. No spirit will cross unless by my invitation. By the Old Gods** this home is protected. By the Gods no spirit will cross the boundary. By the Gods, until the end of days, this home is protected from spirits. “
** (you can state your preferred deity if you have one – I recommend leaving them an offering after doing this ritual if you choose one!)
